Micro System Design was started in 1989 by Pete Sciacchetano to help various businesses operate more effectively by using custom-designed software. We developed a variety of solutions including touch screen point-of-sale, barcode inventory control, automated telephone applications, and large-scale mission critical database applications. While developing solutions for one of the largest oil and gas corporations, Pete started asking himself “why am I really doing this? Yes, I love building software, but in the long run, what difference am I making?”
While God was dealing with Pete about this, He was also preparing a new path. In 1997 Pete was contacted by Bethany World Prayer Center, one of the largest small group churches in America, about developing a solution for them. They had been struggling with the burden of keeping track of thousands of small group members on a weekly basis. Many of the church management systems had some basic “group” functionality, but nothing near what they really needed to manage all aspects of their small group church. We began building a completely new software solution that was designed to be easy to use, comprehensive, and extremely customizable so that it could grow with the church. The solution was immediately successful, and other churches began hearing about it and wanted it for their church.
We launched Excellerate Church Management Software in 1998, and have grown to thousands of customers of all sizes. Over those years, we’ve continually enhance and improved Excellerate, added the Child Check-In System, and ServePoint online scheduling. From the beginning we knew churches are unique and have different needs. So we made sure we had a great support team, able to listen to those unique needs, and provide solutions specifically for that church. In fact, that’s what we hear most from our customers – how amazing our support team is.
